Work hard, play hard has never been so true as when Event Director Scott Rice and Operations Manager Lauren Harrod travelled to Fiji in May. They embarked on a “reccy trip” to do some on-the-ground planning for September. Read on for a behind-the-scenes preview of Ocean Swim Fiji.
Sweet Start at the Sofitel Fiji
After flying on Fiji Airways, Scott and Lauren landed in Nadi and headed straight for the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa Denarau Island, the home-base of Ocean Swim Fiji. Following a warm greeting from the staff and settling into one of the Sofitel’s 200+ beach view rooms, they headed over to the adults-only Waitui Beach Club for a tropical cocktail at sunset to kick off the next few days of hard work. First impressions are essential, and the Sofitel did not disappoint. Plus, the cocktails were up to Lauren’s high standards!
Ten-out-of-Ten at Tivua
First up on the agenda was Tivua Island, the location of Swim Event 1. After a scenic ferry journey, Scott and Lauren set foot on the jetty leading to the island paradise. “It’s one of those moments when you’re snapped out of your real life and into a paradise,” Scott reports. Of course, they had to pick up the essential island accessory – some fresh coconut juice to drink!
The water depth drops away nicely from the beach, so Scott has plotted the swim courses just off the shore around the island and swimmers should be able to catch a few glimpses of tropical marine life. Scott and Lauren reckon this stunning first swim will set a great tone for the event.
Nice one, Natadola
The next day, the Ocean Swim Fiji team visited Natadola Beach, often referred to as one of the prettiest beaches in the world. The location of Swim Event 2, Natadola is a lovely long beach hugging a beautiful bay. Scott has set the start-line just before the reef to optimize swimming conditions.
Final stop was Malamala Beach Club, located on its own private island. After another ferry ride Scott and Lauren scoped out the island, testing the water and tasting all the delicious lunch-time options to make sure everything will be just perfect come September. It's mind-blowing - just check out Scott's video.
Following a dip in the infinity pool – which will be the ultimate post-swim hang-out – and a plunge into the crystal-clear waters off the beach, they’re pretty sure the venue will be the ideal grand finale for Ocean Swim Fiji.
Scott and Lauren also checked on the food quality from the beach front bars. They are happy to report all snacks are up to their post-swim refuelling standards.
Overall, it looks like an amazing event is in store for Ocean Swim Fiji Participants. “Now having seen these beautiful places in the flesh, we know this event is going to blow people’s minds and create memories of a life time,” says Rice. We can’t wait!
